Overview
BLF (Busy Lamp Field) buttons on your desk phone can be configured to monitor and toggle day/night mode or other timeframes in your phone system. This allows you to quickly see whether your business is in "open" or "closed" mode and manually override the schedule when needed.
Requirements
- Office Manager or higher permission level in the FusionUC Portal
- A phone device configured with Intelli-Builder (phone configuration through the portal)
- An existing timeframe configured in the system (day mode, night mode, holiday, etc.)
Step-by-Step Configuration
Step 1: Log Into the FusionUC Portal
Navigate to ezportal.tel and log in with your Office Manager (or administrator) credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to Phone Hardware
From the main menu, go to:
- Click on Inventory
- Select Phone Hardware
This will show a list of all provisioned phone devices in your organization.
Step 3: Access Phone Configuration
Find the phone device you want to configure. Look for phones using Intelli-Builder provisioning (this is indicated in the device details or type column).
Click the cog icon (gear/settings icon) next to the phone device. This opens the Intelli-Builder configuration interface.
Step 4: Find an Available Line Key
In the phone configuration screen, you'll see a list of programmable line keys. Find an available line key (one that is not currently assigned or one you want to repurpose).
The line keys are typically labeled as DSS Key 1, DSS Key 2, etc., or Line Key 1, Line Key 2, etc., depending on the phone model.
Step 5: Configure the Toggle Timeframe Function
Click on the line key you want to configure, then:
- Set the Type to Toggle Timeframe
- In the Timeframe dropdown, select the timeframe you want to monitor/toggle (e.g., "Day Mode," "Night Mode," "After Hours")
- Add a Custom Label for the button (e.g., "Day/Night" or "Open/Closed")
Step 6: Save the Configuration
Click the Save button to apply your changes. The phone will reboot or reprovision to apply the new button configuration.
How It Works
Once configured, the BLF button will indicate the current state of the timeframe:
- Green (solid): The timeframe is currently enabled (e.g., office is open, day mode is active)
- Red (solid): The timeframe is currently disabled (e.g., office is closed, night mode is active)
Pressing the button will toggle the timeframe status:
- If currently enabled (green), pressing the button will disable it (turns red)
- If currently disabled (red), pressing the button will enable it (turns green)
Use Cases
- Early closing: Press the button to switch to "closed" mode before the scheduled time
- Late opening: Override the schedule if the office opens late
- Snow days: Quickly toggle to after-hours routing without accessing the portal
- Holiday coverage: Enable holiday mode without changing the schedule
Notes
The button reflects the current state in real-time. Multiple phones can have the same timeframe toggle button, and they will all show the same status.
- Changes made via the button are immediate and affect all call routing tied to that timeframe
- The toggle is a manual override—when the next scheduled time transition occurs, the system will follow the schedule unless manually overridden again
- Make sure staff know when a manual override is in place to avoid confusion
Troubleshooting
- Button not appearing: Ensure the phone has rebooted after saving changes
- Button shows wrong color: Check that the correct timeframe is selected in the configuration
- Cannot save changes: Verify you have Office Manager or higher permissions
- Timeframe not in dropdown: The timeframe must be created first in the system settings
